Laura Castañeda is an award-winning journalist, documentary filmmaker, and media instructor. She has more than 30 years of experience in broadcast, multimedia, digital and print platforms.

From Chicago to San Diego, Tucson & Tijuana

Laura has worked in Chicago, San Diego, and Tucson, Ariz., and spent many years working on both sides of the international border in Nogales and Tijuana, B.C.

She is an alumna of the University of Illinois at Urbana and holds a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Sociology.

Laura is a member of the SPJ (Society of Professional Journalists), IRE (Investigative Reporters and Editors), NAHJ (National Association of Hispanic Journalists), and supports NABJ (National Association of Black Journalists), IJA (Indigenous Journalists Association), and AAJA (Asian-American Journalists Association).

She has also served on numerous boards of directors, including Latino Journalists of California, CCNMA (The California News Media Association and UNITY Journalists of Color, and also served as president of the San Diego Chapter of CCNMA and co-founded the NAHJ chapter in San Diego/Tijuana, for which she also served as president.
