Nash’s Journey

She is working on her fifth film, “Nash’s Journey: From El Barrio to Union Victory.” It’s a slice of Chicago history from the 1980s, when her father, Ignacio, a union organizer for the United Auto Workers, took on Greyhound Corporation, fighting on behalf of thousands of workers who were about to lose their pension.

Maid in America

In 2018, Castañeda produced a short documentary, Maid in America, which debuted at the San Diego Latino Film Festival. It tells the story of a domestic worker from Mexico, who left her own children behind to raise American children, and risked being charged by the U.S. government for working illegally in San Diego.

Little Tommy

Little Tommy was co-produced by filmmakers Laura Castañeda and Ninette Sosa in 2024. It tells the story of one of San Diego’s most popular radio personalities, Tommy Sablan. His parents were immigrants from Guam. Tommy went on to make a positive difference with his charitable events. The film was featured at the Coronado Film Festival and earned the festival’s Best Local Documentary Short Audience Awards.

The Devil’s Breath

In 2008, San Diego witnessed one of the worst wildfires in the county's history. With little notice, she embarked on an incredible journey to document the tragedy of 11 undocumented people who died in the 2008 San Diego Wildfires. The Devil's Breath was nominated for an Emmy Award by the Pacific Southwest Chapter of the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences. The documentary first aired on UCSD-TV and was later revised for audiences at various PBS stations and film festivals across the country.
